Meanwhile the 2nd XI won for the 1st time in 9 weeks by beating neighbours Mayfield II by 4 wkts. Good all round bowling from Kevin Simmonds (3-14), Ian Hartland (2-13), Peter Hartland (2-15) & Stuart Munnery (2-26) restricted Mayfield II to just 144, in reply Peter Hartland top scored with 53 & he was well supported by Andy Williamson with 26 then Dave Farnham scored 15* despite a badly injured foot to take the II's over the winning line.
4th August
Another draw for the 1st XI, this time against local rivals Mayfield. For a change they chased a large total but fell a long way short despite John Elms plundering 91* & Chris Buck scoring 30, Earlier Jamie Featherbee took 2-60. The 2nd XI lost again but were far more competative this week. Kevin Simmonds top scored with a patient 67 & Alan Beech scored 36 (in a 6th wicket stand of 86), Nick Rowe hit 31, Dave Hacker then took 4-25 but the 2's came up just short.
29th July

Meanwhile the 2nds had another dismal day scoring only 91 and lost by 6 wickets.
22nd July
After a morning downpour almost put paid to the game, John Baldock with 61 & Chris Buck 82* led the 1st XI to a very competitive total , in reply John Elms took 4-30 but Linden Park's final pair held out for the final 5 balls to force a draw. It was the same old story for the 2nds as they bowled well to dismiss the league leaders for 159, Ian Hatland took 4-21 & Peter Hartland 4-44, but the batting wasn't up to the quick bowling as they could only muster 76 all out.
15th July
The 1st XI could only mange a draw after they dismiised Wadhurst II for 171, John Elms took 6-46, but no one could post a high score as they finished 19 runs short with 2 wickets remaining. The 2nd XI appeared to be on their way to victory after keeping Newhaven II to just 127, 13 year old Stuart Munnery took an excellent 3-16, but again no one get a decent score as they lost by 5 runs.
The highlight of the weekend was the annual visit of Wimbledon Wanderers with an superb lunch & hospitality being laid on by our hosts, Richard & Kirsty Snowden. On the pitch Andy Best took 4 quality catches in the outfield while Kevin Simmonds took 3-5 then John Baldock scored 44 & Chris Buck 38* to see Rotherfield home with just one over & one ball remaining. 8th July
The 1st XI has a resounding win with John Baldock scoring another ton, 138*, supported by Chris Buck with 46 (on first use of his new bat) in a stand of 111.. John Elms tore through the top order with 3-43 & fellow new ball bowler Dave Harman took an excellent 4-24, Jamie Featherbee also chipped in with 2-18. 30th June
Persistant rain caused both league games to be cancelled this week.
24th June
A thunderstorm and localised heavy rain put paid to the 1st XI match after just 2.3 overs. The 2nd XI had an exciting game at Hailsham. After Hailsham sportingly declared on 211-4, Richie Arnold, again top scoring with an excellent 80 & Kevin Simmonds with 53 shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 128 to keep the target just about within range (137 required at the 20 over stage with 9 wickets in hand then 80 off the last 10 still with 9 wickets in hand) , Peter Hartland then weighed in with a quickfire 30 but a flury of late wickets meant that the target was just too great and the 2nds had to settle for a draw.
17th June
John Baldock hit an excellent 151* and Tom Williamson 55 but the 1st XI were unable to bowl about Robertbridge to force the win, John Elms took 3 wickets. Meanwhile the 2nd XI batting let them down again as only Richie Arnold with 51 showed any resistance as they slipped to another defeat, earlier Nigel Mann took 4-28 off 15 overs.
10th June
After bowling out Newick for just 124 , Johns Elms 3-31 & Dave Harman also 3-31 were the main wicket takers, the 1st XI appeared to be on their way to victory but poor batting & good bowling saw them collapse to just 76 all out. The 2nd XI returned to winning ways as Dave Hacker took 3-3 & Nigel Mann 3-27 to restrict Mayfield II to just 104 then Richie Arnold batted through with 46* to lead the 2nds to a 5 wicket victory.
3rd June
The 1st XI had another draw, though nowhere near as exciting as last week. John Baldock with 74 & Gary Wickend with 41 were the main scorers then Dave Harman took 3-23 but the rest of bowlers couldn't break thre subborn resistance of Mayfield as the game drifted to a draw. The 2nd XI were again on the wrong end of the toss and coupled with poor batting this meant that the small target was in easy reach of the big hitting opposition, who won by 6 wkts. Jamie Featherbee took all four wickets to fall (4-32).
27th May
Tom Williamson was again the main man with his first 1st XI league ton (102), just 2 days short of his 18th birthday, as the 1st XI were involved in a high scoring draw, Chris Buck scored 44 & John Baldock 40 while Alex Hayes took 3-22 & Dave Harman 2-39. Heavy persistant rain put paid to the 1st XI's final league game, only 35 overs were possible with the 1sts reaching 111-6, Chris Buck top scored with 42*. Meanwhile the 2nd team battled on through the rain but lost to Hailsham 2nds. Peter Hartland took 3-55 and Alex Ffrench scored a fine 52*. These results mean that both teams finished bottom of their respective divisions and so are relegated. Lets hope next year can produce better results & more consistant individual performances.
26th August
A draw against second bottom Eastbourne didn't do either team any favours, Kevin Simmonds took 2-36 & Rob Williamson scored 52. Meanwhile the 2nd's will stay bottom after being dismissed cheaply, Nigel Mann top scored with 24. Dave Hacker took the only wicket in reply.
19th August
The 1st XI restricted St Peters to just 137, Dave Harman took 5-49 & Kevin Simmonds 4-66 in a marathon spell of 26 overs then reached 72-1 without too much difficulty along when they collapsed to lose by 23 runs, yet again threw away a winning position to remain rooted to the foot of the table. The 2nd XI had the better of the match against local rivals Mayfield. John Elms scored 94 & then took 3-12, Peter Hartland scored 37 & took 2-18 but the final Mayfield pair couldn't be seperated and the result was a draw to leave the 2's deep in the relegation zone..
12th August
Yet again both teams failed to win, the 1st XI were unable to keep Wadhurst's batsmen in check despite Dave Harman's excellent spell of 4-32 in 12 overs, in reply Chris Buck hit a superb 80 & Mark Bulmer 67 but chasing 264 to win was always too much and the game finished in a draw. The 2nd team didn't score nearly enough runs and suffered a 5 wicket defeat to Newhaven only Dan Curless with 3-21 emerged with any credit.
5th August
More misery all round as both teams lost, the 1st XI posted 203-7 with Mark Bulmer returning to form with a fine 57 but Newhaven easily knocked off the runs. Meanwhile the 2nd XI scored 194-7, Richie Arnold top scoring with an excellent 85 but Burwash Weald won with just over an over remaining.
1st August
Rotherfield's quest to win the Greensand League ended in disappointment as they lost by 4 wickets to Speldhurst. John Baldock top scored with 37, John Elms scored 24 as they posted 103 from the 15 overs, it always look about 10-15 runs light and that was proved as Speldhurst won with 1 over left, John Baldock took 3-17 & Dave Harman 2-23.
29th July
The 1st XI played league leaders Buxted Park and after an opening stand of 127, John Baldock with 77 & Dave Harman with 38, things were looking good but the remaining batsmen failed to add enough runs and the final score of 214 always look about 20-30 runs below par on a fast outfield, indeed Buxted won by 4 wickets with 4 overs to spare. The 2nd XI had a solid draw away at Little Common, Dave Hacker took 2-43 & Andy Williamson top scored with 67 but a victory was never threatened.
27th July
It has been confirmed that Rotherfield have reached the final of the Greensand League - match to be played 1st Aug at Stonewall Park against Speldhurst, start 6pm
22nd July
After restricting Dicker to just 155 thanks to good all round bowling mainly from John Elms 5-45, the 1st XI fell 7 runs short after a very poor batting display and even if they can start converting their many winning chances will face a tough fight against relegation. The 2nd XI fared little better goung down to a 56 run loss to Wadhurst III, Dave Hacker 3-39 & Andy Williamson with 65 were the top performers. Like the 1st XI they also have a tough fight against relegation.
15th July
So near yet so far sums up the 1st XI's match. After Polegate & Stone Cross had set a teasing declaration (236 in what turned out to be 43 overs), despite the early loss of both openers the middle order set about chasing down the target but with still 149 needed off the final twenty it looked like the chase may have been too much but Nick Rowe with 47 & Gary Wickens with 69 set up a thrilling finish with 8 needed off the final over then 2 off the final ball but it proved just too much as the game finished as a draw. The 2nd XI were well beaten , Jamie Featherbee top scored with 34*, Peter Hartland too 3-57.
8th July
The 1st XI were denied the win as Ditchling's final pair held out for the last 11 balls, some fine bowling by John Elms 3-48 off 18 overs supported by Gary Wickens with 3-59 had put them in a position to win which they couldn't quite achive, earlier John Baldock top scored with 58. The 2nd XI were also involved in a tight game needing 12 to win off the final over but with only 1 wicket remaining they could only get 5 but did get the draw, Dave Hacker led the way with 53, Andy Williamson was 37*. The pick of the 2nd's bowlers was Nigel Mann with 4-52.
1st July
On a day dominated by England's World cup exit, both teams turn in excellent performances to record victories. The 1st XI dismissed Hailsham for 176, all 5 bowlers used took 2 wickets each then Rob Williamson,on his first league match back after university, scored a well carfted 70 supported by some big hitting from Gary Wickens with 32* to lead the 1st XI to a 5 wicket win. The 2nd XI batted first and Tom Williamson with 83 & his dad, Andy, with 43 helped set a respectable total then Dave Hacker 3-23 & Nigel Mann 3-32 helped bowl the 2's to victory.
24th June
The 1st XI were asked to chase 260 on a good batting track down at Eastbourne III, they started well with a 106 run opening stand between John Baldock & Chris Buck , John went on to score 82 but wickets fell at crucial stages and in the end the game finished as a solid draw. Meanwhile the 2nd XI were playing Eastbourne IV , Tom Williamson scored 108, his 3rd career ton, & Richie Arnold 49 in a partnership of 172 but a final score of 200-4 was never enough as the opponents chased down the total with ease.
17th June
John Elms smashed his way to his first Rotherfield & first league ton (101*) as the 1st XI posted a healthly 245-7, he was supported by Chris Buck with 51 & Mark Bulmer with 30. In reply St Peters batted out for a draw with some good allround bowling restricting their scoring chances. The 2nd XI crawled their way to only 149-7 in their alloted time, Tom Williamson with 45 & Richie Arnold with 41 were the pick of the batsman then Mayfield II cruised to victory by 7 wickets, Peter Hartland took 2-25.
10th June
The sun was blazing down again but results were the same as last week. The 1st XI didn't post enough runs as only Mark Bulmer with 39 showed any form with the bat, in reply they couldn't get the early wickets as Wadhurst easily won. Meanwhile the 2nd XI were involved in a high scoring encounter, Newhaven II posted a massive 278-2 then in reply Dave Hacker, with his second career century (exactly 100) and Andy Williamson (44) had an opening stand of 170 but the rest of the team couldn't see the them over the line and they fell 27 runs short.
3rd June
The sky was blue, the sun was shining but the same can't be said of either team's performance as both were soundly beaten. The 1st XI had Newhaven at 79-8 but some big hitting saw Newhaven reach 162, Jim Reading took 4-18, Dave Harman 3-22.In reply the batting was woeful. The 2nd XI as well had a couple of good bowling performances, Peter Hartland with 5-40 & Tom Williamson with 3-46. Dave Farnham top scored with 21.
27th May
In a repeat of last week, both teams games were abandoned, this time before play even started as persistant rain during the last week left both grounds waterlogged.
20th May
Heavy overnight, which left mini lakes on the outfield, then a heavy shower last morning put paid to the 1st XI fixture, The 2nd XI faired little better as their match was quickly abandoned after as sharp showers added to a already saturated outfield making play impossible.
13th May
Mixed fortunes with 1st XI losing by 2 wkts despite John Baldock's excellent 118* on a low bouncing pitch, Polgate slipped from 194-4 to 194-8 when just a couple of runs from the win, Gary Wickens took 4-48 but it was all too late to prevent the defeat. The 2nd XI had a comfortable win, Peter Hartland took 4-23 and Jamie Featherbee (43*) & Andy Williamson (41*) sealed the victory.
6th May
Both matches were abandoned due to heavy rain, the 1st XI only reached 44-3 before play was called off, the 2nd XI under new skipper, Nigel Mann, scored 152 all out (Peter Hartland 44) and had Hellingly at 82-4 ( Peter Hartland 3-23) before play was finally halted.
